Kitty In The Christmas Tree
I have three adult daughters, who are the best thing I’ve ever done in my life. They are my reason for everything I do. My second oldest daughter is married with two little boys ages seven and eight. Since the boys were probably five and six, my daughter has been fostering kittens for the Detroit Humane Society. At first I was apprehensive because of how young the boys were, but I soon realized they were learning how to take good care of baby animals.
I myself, have rescued a few animals in my day. Some I’ve had to take to the humane society and some I was able to find homes for, but caring for God’s creations is something I feel strongly about. It was also part of God’s guidance in Genesis 1:28 (NLT) “ Then God blessed them and said, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and govern it. Reign over the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, and all the animals that scurry along the ground.” God was asking us to partner with him in stewardship of the earth and all he created. Watching my daughter take such good care of kittens without a home has been a proud moment for me. But the kittens she kept is a precious story.
We live three hours north of our kids in a small town on Lake Huron. This past summer my daughter and her family came up for a weekend visit and rented a small air bnb on Lake Huron. When we got there, she had two small kittens placed in the sun room off the living room. She’d just been given two brother kittens to foster. They were both black but the bigger one had white paws, which helped us tell them apart. The bigger one had just lost his eyesight to an infection that caused his eyeballs to literally explode. I was distraught over this kitten and his loss of vision, and immediately prayed for this tiny kitten. But when my older daughter and her two kids showed up to visit I was excited to see the attention they paid to these two kitties. As I watched these kittens get all the love from my family, I saw the blind cat slowly come to life. Whenever we were at the house, someone was loving on those kittens. My oldest grandson is fourteen and his younger sister is six and they each took turns holding a kitten whenever they could. One afternoon I saw my oldest just in there alone loving on those kittens. After renting a pontoon for half a day on the river, we came back to see the littler kitten looking through the window for someone to play with, of course I went right in and picked him up for a cuddle. This little guy now named Tex, was such a cuddle bug and would purr the whole time we held him.
After they went home, we ended going down for work, and stopped to visit the kids and the cats were now comfortable in the home and loved exploring, and I was getting attached to these kittens. I couldn’t bear the thought of them going back to the humane society and given to a strange family. While it wasn’t my place to decide these kittens fate, I did pray for them to be given to a loving home that took great care of them. And God answered my prayers in the most remarkable way.
A few days after we left I texted my daughter to see if she still had the kittens and she said yes, that when she called the humane society, they haven’t gotten back with her. I said..that makes me feel better, I really loved them. She said, yes we are very attached and want to adopt them. They did exactly that and my heart is so full of love for these little lost kittens that finally found a home, with my family. The names for these kittens is a funny story too. The smaller kitten, who is such a cuddle bug was named Tex by my son in-law. Probably big name for a small kitten, I’m honestly not sure. But the blind kitten, he named Zorro because he’s blind so he needs a cool name. My son in-law is a six foot two Sheriff Deputy, and his naming of the kittens is pure him.
This morning my daughter posted a video in snap chat of the blind kitten attacking the Christmas tree and I was just so happy and proud to see this kitten thriving and acting like a regular cat. These kittens were placed in the right place at the right time so that they could be loved and cared for by people who would appreciate the love they would give back. My grandsons are always cuddling with these little guys and it’s precious and perfect how that happened.
Well that’s a wrap for today and I hope I’ve helped you realize how God’s love encompasses every living thing and no prayers are too small for God to answer.
